An arrested murder accused died in front of the gate of the Noakhali district jail on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam alias Nigro Masud, 30, son of late Abul Kalam, a resident of Purba Chauria village in Sadar upazila.Supervisor of Noakhali district jail Nazrul Islam said Saiful was sick and he died at the jail gate before police handed him over to the jail authorities.Officer-in-charge of Shudharam Model Police Station Anwar Hossain said local people handed over Masud to police after giving him a tremendous trashing at Kalitara Bazar.Later, police produced Masud before the No 1 Amoli Court on Tuesday in a case filed for killing schoolteacher Shamsunnahar and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Gias Uddin and the court sent him to the jail.
On the other hand, sources at Masud’s family said two young men of the area—Suman and Hanif—called Masud from his house and beat him indiscriminately at Kalitara Bazar and handed over him to police.Family members also said that Masud joined Jubo League a few months ago although he was involved with BNP. -UNB, Noakhali
