National development through scouting urged

Students should be involved in national development through  Scouting: speakers GAIBANDHA, July 05, 2013 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here on Thursday said students should be involved in the process of national development along with building their own character through scouting.“Scouting can make the students self-reliant and worthy citizens of the country imbued with honesty and patriotism from their childhood and enable them to grow up with the mentality to serve and love human beings”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a concluding ceremony of five-day long 26th basic course for the cub-scouts unit leaders on the premises of Gaibandha Government High School here.
Bangladesh Scouts, Gaibandha district chapter organized the course under Primary Education Development Project-3 of Primary and Mass Education Ministry.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique addressed the function as the chief guest. Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid and district primary education officer AKM Amirul Islam were present as the special guest.
With head teacher of the school Sahana Banu in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by assistant district primary education officer Ahindra Kumar Mondal, general secretary of district rovers unit Syed Azaharul Haque Lalu, general secretary of district scouts unit M. Saiful Islam and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Describing the salient features of the scouting, ADC (General) Abu Bakar Siddique urged the trainees to apply the knowledge acquired from the training to expand the scouting in their respective academic institution as co-curricular activities to involve the students in the national development to build a happy, prosperous and enriched nation.
The lecture session was followed by a grand campfire. Later, the cub-scouts leaders presented a colourful cultural function which included patriotic, folk, baul and regional songs along with dance and a drama.
