New CO posted to RAB-11

A new army officer has been named to command RAB-11 after a massive overhaul of the Narayanganj police force.
Lt Col Anwar Latif Khan has assumed charge of his new responsibility on Friday, said RAB’s Assistant Director (Media) Sadira Khatun.
She said an order was issued to this effect on Thursday night.
Lt Col Khan was the CO of Rajshahi’s RAB-5 battalion.
The appointment comes a week after the removal of former CO, Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mahmud, following the abduction and murder of seven men in the district.
Mahmud is the son-in-law of Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.
Seven persons, including Narayanganj city councillor Nazrul Islam, wereabducted on Apr 27. Their bodies were recovered from the Shitlakhya River several days later.
Islam’s family claimed people posing as RAB had abducted him.
His father-in-law alleged RAB had taken Tk 60 million from prime suspect Nur Hossain for the murders.
Tarek Sayeed Mahmud and two other RAB members have been forced to retire following the allegations.
Since the murders, the government has removed district’s deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, OCs of two police stations, besides OC and an inspector of the DB in the city.
On Wednesday, it also changed the investigation officer in the case.
The home ministry on Thursday night transferred 81 police officers from Fatulla and Siddhirganj police stations and the district police’s Detective Branch.
Earlier in the day, state minister for home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the prime minister has ordered not to spare anyone.
He said arrest warrants would be issued for the suspended RAB officers if they are found guilty.
RAB has promised not to make any effort to protect any of its officials if they are found to be involved.-bdnews24.com
