N’ganj AL leader held in connection with 7-murder

Detectives have arrested an Awami League leader of Narayanganj on Friday in connection with the sensational seven murder case involving some Rab officials.
The arrested man was identified as Abul Bashar, assistant publicity secretary of Siddhirganj thana unit of Awami League and an aide of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder cases who has since fled to India and is facing trial there.A team of Detective Branch police arrested Bashar from Dakkhin Golakanda area in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district at noon, said officer-in-charge of district DB Inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal, also the investigation officer of the cases.
On April 27 last year, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. At that time, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted when they were going to capital Dhaka.
Three days after their abduction, the bodies of six people, including Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were were found floating and recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. The body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river on the following day.
Later it was alleged that the commander of the local unit of the Rab and some other personnel of the battation were involved in the case and were arrested and charged. – News Desk
