“The permission for mobile towers will only be given if the government security forces show positive outlook towards it, otherwise Banglalink will have to remove all the BTSs those have been set up near the border area, a senior official of BTRC told The Independent.
Banglalink on June 22, 2016, wrote a letter to BTRC seeking approval for its towers near the border although these were set up in 2013.
Prior to that, BTRC did not have any knowledge about these Banglalink’s mobile towers, popularly known as mobile tower, set up near border.
Shahjahan Mahmood said the operator has set up around 400 towers near border areas of the country without permission from BTRC.
“According to BTRC law, to set up BTS near the border, a telecom operator needs no objection certificate from border security forces and permission from BTRC. In this case the operator has violated both the laws,” The BTRC chairman added.
According to the 201st meeting minutes of the commission, there is a security threat if BTS has been set up in border areas without permission from authority concerned.
According to the Commission it is not expected that the mobile phone operator will set up mobile towerss in border areas violating the rule willingly. It is necessary to take action against Banglalink for doing such offence, otherwise other operators may fall the pathway.
