No holiday for land ports till Eid

All land ports and duty stations along Bangladesh-India border will remain open until Eid-ul-Fitr even on weekends. The decision by National Board of Revenue and land port authorities was taken following a request from the Ministry of Commerce, the ministry said in a media release on Thursday.
The move aims at maintaining uninterrupted import of onions and other necessities. The decision will be effective from Jul 19, said the Commerce Ministry.
Benapole is the most vital land port between Bangladesh and India. The import and export between the countries go through a dozen more land ports.
Apex trade body FBCCI has been demanding that the ports stay open during the holidays to make up for the loss incurred during the recent days of political unrest and shutdowns.
The decision to keep the ports open will help keep the market prices of essentials stable during Ramadan, it said. – bdnews24.com
