No permit yet for BNP’s May Day rally at Suhrawardy ground

Dhaka – The BNP is yet to get police permission to hold its planned May Day rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
Police Thursday informed the BNP that they would not allow any party to hold any rally in the city to mark the May Day.The police however assured the BNP that they would consider if the party wants to hold May Day rally at Suhrawardy Udyan either on May 2 or 3, BNP sources said.
In that case, the BNP would hold its rally upon police permission either on May 2 or 3 at Suhrawardy Udyan.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to address the rally as the chief guest.
Earlier, a BNP delegation led by its publicity secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anie went to office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner to know the progress of their permission for the proposed rally.
Annie told reporters that they would hold the May Day rally at Suhrawardy Udyan when the police allow them to do it.
The BNP has already got permission from public works department to use the Suhrawardy Udyan as venue on condition of having police permission.
Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the workers front of the party, would arrange the rally for workers.
The Sramik Dal organized a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on May 1 and Khaleda Zia spoke there as the chief guest. – Staff Reporter
