Nushrat murder: OC Moazzem Hossain seeks bail from HC

Dhaka, May 29 – Former Sonagazi officer-in-charge (OC) Moazzem Hossain on Wednesday filed a petition with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail after a tribunal ordered his arrest in a case over recording and circulating a video statement of slain Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The petition was submitted to the related department of the court on Wednesday.
A copy was also sent to the attorney general’s office. However, Moazzem did not appear in court.
His colleagues could not confirm his whereabouts either.
The arrest warrant issued by Cyber Tribunal to arrest Moazzem did not reach to Feni. Even he was not found at his new work station in Rangpur as he has a date to appear before a court in Chattogram to give evidence of a case.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the agency now probing the murder case of Nusrat, found out that the former OC videotaped the interrogation of Nusrat.
Supreme Court Lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman sued former OC Moazzem on April 15 under the Digital Security Act, charging him of recording Nusrat without her consent and spreading the video footage on social media.
The video shows former OC Moazzem asking Nusrat several “defamatory and objectionable” questions one after another. The complainant said that “such an irresponsible government official should be brought under trial”. – Staff Reporter
