Odhikar case charge framing deferred for third time

A Dhaka court Thursday deferred hearing for the third time on framing charges against human rights activists Adilur Rahman Khan and ASM Nasiruddin Elan in a case filed for alleged distorting of facts about the eviction Hefajat activists from Shapla Chattar of Motijheel commercial hub on May 5 night.
Adilur Rahman is the Secretary of the rights group Odhikar, while Elan is its Director.
Dhaka’s Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge KM Shamsul Alam deferred the hearing to December 18, as Elan could not be produced to the court from the jail on Thursday. However, Adil, who is on bail, was present in the court. Elan’s bail petition would also be taken up for hearing on the same day. He surrendered to the court on November 6, while the judge sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
The court also asked the authorities concerned to return Adil’s materials they had seized while arresting him.
On August 10, Adilur Rahman was arrested in the case in front of his house at Gulshan in the city. On October 11, he was released after a bench of the High Court granted him six-month’s bail on October 8. – Court Correspondent
