Old vehicles targets of plan to reduce N’ganj traffic jam

The local administration will soon begin a crackdown on worn-out vehicles and unregistered rickshaws to free the city from traffic congestion during the holy month of Ramadan.The decision came at a meeting of the regional transport committee at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office at noon. DC Manoj Kanti Baral presided over the meeting.
The DC said nagging traffic gridlock is created everyday in the city due to the movement of ramshackle vehicles and entrance of unregistered rickshaws into the city from outside.
Additional police super Sajjadur Rahman who was present at the meeting said they will launch the drive very soon after consultation with the mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) to stop the plying of unauthorised rickshaws in the city.
At the meeting, it was decided that a one-way system will be followed for the movement of the vehicles during the month of fasting.
Stern action will be taken against those who will violate traffic rules, said meeting sources.
