One dead in Jamalpur poll violence

Jamalpur –A man was killed in a clash between supporters of two member candidates in Shyampur union of Melandah upazila during the second phase union parishad polls on Thursday morning.

Witnesses said supporters of the two member candidates locked in a clash at Uttar Baluchar Government Primary School polling centre at about 11:15 am.

Both the groups took part in a chase and counter-chase and a brick chip hurled form one side hit Rafiqul Islam,50, leaving him dead on the spot.

Another person was also injured in the clash.

However, Officer-in-charge of Melandah Police Station Nasimul Islam said Rafiqul died of heart attack while waiting in a long queue for casting vote.
