Dhaka – A court here today sentenced a youth to death for killing a school girl in Sadar upazila in 2016.The convicted youth is Abdul Malek, 28, of Diar Dhainagar village of the upazila.Additional District and Session Judge Ziaur Rahman pronounced the verdict in presence of Malek. The court also awarded him 10 years imprisonment and fined Taka 5,000, in default, to suffer more three months in jail for injuring other three girls.The prosecution story, in brief, is that convict Malek chopped Konika Rani Ghosh, 14, daughter of Lakkhan Ghosh and her three classmates and injured them seriously at Mohipur while they were returning home from private tutor on May 27, 2016. All are student of class ten of Mohipur SAM Dimukhi High School.The locals detained Abdul Malek, rescued the injured girls and rushed them to the Sadar Hospital where on duty the doctor declared Konika dead.Later, the locals handed Abdul Malek over to the police. Konika’s mother Anjali Rani Ghosh filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station on the same day.After investigation, SI Mahmudur Rashid, also investigation officer, submitted charge-sheet to the court on October 7, on the same year. The judge after examining 21 witnesses and evidences found him guilty and announced the judgment.BSS
