Padma Graft: Nixon among 3 to be grilled again

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will re-interrogate three people in connection with their alleged involvement in the much-talked-about Padma Bridge graft.

ACC deputy director and investigation officer of Padma graft case Mirza Zahidul Alam on Monday served notices to them asking them to appear before the ACC head office on May 16 to face its grilling, an ACC investigator said.

The Commission will quiz Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon Chowdhury), brother of Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury; superintending engineer of Bridge Authority M Kamruzzaman, and supervisor of Dhaka Elevated Expressway project Liaqat Ali. Nixon Chowdhury will be quizzed for the third time.

On December 17 last year, the anti-graft body filed a case against seven people for their alleged involvement in the Padma Bridge project dropping the names of key graft suspects former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain and former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury.

Two top officials of SNC Lavalin — Mohammad Ismail, former director of SNC Lavalin, and Ramesh Shah, former vice president of firm, — were also sued in Padma graft case. SNC Lavalin is a Canadian consultancy firm that participated in a bidding process to get work of the Padma Bridge project.

Earlier, the Royal Canadian Mountain Police seized Ramesh’s diary where he had mentioned Syed Abul Hossain as the recipient of 4 percent out of 10 percent (Tk 38 crore) bribe from the supervision work money and the ACC is trying to collect the copy of the diary. (Source: UNB)
