Palashbari upazila poll office set on fire

Opposition activists tried to set fire to Gaibandha’s Palashbarhi Upazila election office on Saturday, the first day of the Opposition’s 72-hour nationwide blockade.Ten to twelve blockade campaigners tried to torch the office, Upazila Election Officer Ferdaus Hossain told bdnews24.com
They initially burnt down four broken wooden chairs kept on the corridor of the locked election office at around 8am, he said.
The miscreants fled before security guards and police patrols rushed in, said the election officer.
No bigger damage happened as the fire was controlled immediately, he said.
Palashbarhi Police Station’s OC Nasir Uddin Mandal said they were trying to arrest the miscreants.
BNP-led 18-Party alliance had observed a 71-hour countrywide blockade starting from 6am on Nov 26 demanding postponement of the election schedule.
At least 20 people had died during the first round of blockade across the country.
