Panel to probe bomb blasts near vehicle in Khulna

A two-member probe panel was formed on Sunday to look into Friday’s crude bomb explosions near Khulna City Corporation vehicle in front of the Chamber Bhaban in Khulna city. The vehicle was to carryIndian Commissioner Pankaj Saran.Headed by deputy police commissioner of Khulna Detective Branch (DB) of police (sadar) Talukdar Abul Bashar, the other member of the committee is assistant police commissioner (DB) TM Mosharraf Hossain. The committee has been asked to come up with a report by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, sub-inspector Abu Jafar of Sadar Police Station filed a case in connection with the bomb explosions.

Three crude bombs were exploded near and 20 metres away from the vehicle scheduled to carry Pankaj Saran while he was attending a views-exchange meeting with the leaders of the local Chamber of Commerce at the chamber Bhaban at Khan A Sabur Road on Friday night, leaving people slightly injured.

Later a press briefing was held at the Indian Foreign Ministry following the incident on Saturday where New Delhi office said they have no cause for concern over the explosions near Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran’s vehicle in Khulna.

Sahabuddin Azad, officer-in-charge of Sadar police, said a general diary was lodged with the thana after the incident. Sub-inspector Sohel Rana is investigating the incipient after the filing of the case.

Police arrested Ashrafuzzaman Babul, 36, and Rafiqul Islam, 24, in this connection. They were produced before a court with a seven-day remand petition, the OC said adding that the court may hear the remand petition on
