The government is examining the matter of giving permission to two closed private TV channels—Diganta TV and Islamic TV to resume their operation.
Minister for Information Hasanul Haq Inu told the Parliament while replying to a question from Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Maidul Islam of Kurigram-3 constituency.
He said the operations of the two private TV channels were stopped temporarily for violation of the existing law of the land including the conditions of broadcasting.The information minister said Dainik Amardesh was not closed, rather the deputy commissioner office cancelled the declaration of the newspaper on June 1 in 2010 in accordance with the law.He said a case was filed against the authority of the newspaper on 13 April last year for publishing Amardesh from an undeclared printing press without prior permission
Inu said the next step on allowing the publication of the paper cannot be taken until the case is finally settled.Replying to another question from Maidul Islam, the information minister said the eighth wage board has so far been implemented in 19 newspapers.It is learnt primarily that 19 newspapers have implemented the eighth wage board award.he newspapers are—Dainik Ittefaq, Dainik Bonik Barta, Prothom Alo, The Financial Express, The Bangladesh Today, The News Today, The Daily Star, The Independent, The New Age, The New Nation, The Daily Sun, Kaler Kantha, Samokal, Amader Somoy, Dainik Bartoman, Dainik Amar Sangbad, The Dhaka Tribune , Swadesh Sangbad and Baher Sangbad.Inu said an-eight member monitoring committee formed earlier to oversee the implementation of the eighth wage board has been examining the matter of implementation of the latest wage board.- Staff Reporter
