PM Sheikh Hasina, Khaleda, Jamaat congratulate Modi

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated BJP leader Narendra Modi on the victory of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in India’s Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Haque Shakil told bdnews24.com on Friday.
As of 3pm Friday, NDA was ahead in 339 of the 543 seats. BJP alone was ahead in 286 seats. To obtain a majority, the alliance needed 272 seats.BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has congratulated Narendra Modi, who is all set to become India’s next prime minister, as the BJP and its allies are on course for resounding victory in Indian elections.
The greetings have been sent to the BJP through the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, party’s Vice-Chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told bdnews24.com.
Partial counts showed Modi’s Hindu nationalist BJP-led alliance leading in 309 seats out of 543 being contested while the ruling Congress party alliance was ahead in just 72, Reuters reported citing NDTV news.
The BJP leading in 261 seats and is not far short of a majority on its own, confirming the findings of the most optimistic exit polls.
Returns from 989 counting stations were based on partial counts, with no results yet declared, Reuters said.

n a statement on Friday, Jamaat’s acting chief Maqbul Ahmed said his party wants to maintain a friendly relations with the neighbouring country.
“I hope the NDA alliance will form the government under the leadership of Narendra Modi and run the country based on communal harmony and democratic values,” Ahmed said.
Hardline Hindu activist Modi, the longest running Gujarat chief minister, is accused of not doing enough to contain 2002 deadly Hindu-Muslim riots in his home state.
