PM to visit Saudi Arabia in early June

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Saudi Arabia from June 4-6, the second bilateral visit since 2009, through which Bangladesh expects to take the relations between the two countries to a new height.

The Saudi government has already finalised the tour schedules and conveyed it to Dhaka, said a diplomatic source here. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a summit meeting with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Jeddah on June 5.

Manpower export, investment, development issues and cooperation in countering terrorism and violent extremism are likely to get priority during the meeting, foreign ministry sources said.

Both the countries are working on a number of instruments for cooperation on investment, culture and education ahead of the visit so that those could be signed during the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi government invited Sheikh Hasina to visit Saudi Arabia last year and the visit was also discussed during recent visit of Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali there with his Saudi counterpart.

Saudi businesspeople and investors are also likely to hold a meeting with Hasina during the visit.

She is also likely to attend the function to be hosted by expatriates Bangladeshis there.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Japan to attend the G-7 outreach programme to be held on May 26-27.

Heads of state and government of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are also invited to the outreach meeting. Hasina also attended a similar event held in Italy in 2001.

The United State, the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy, France, Germany and Canada are the members of G-7.
