‘Police drive eyewash,’ says slain N’ganj panel Mayor’s wife

The wife of slain Narayanganj city Councillor Nazrul Islam has alleged that the police operation at prime accused Nur Hossain’s house is an eyewash.
Selina Islam Beauty told bdnews24.com on Saturday that police’s failure to react immediately after the abduction led to her husband’s killing.“We immediately after the abduction informed the police. They did nothing. If they had promptly reacted, my husband and the rest would still be alive,” she said.
Police arrested 12 men from the house of Nur Hossain for their suspected involvement in the abduction and murder of seven persons including councillor Nazrul Islam. They have also seized a microbus. Nur Hossain was not found there.
After the abduction on Apr 27, Selina raised allegations against Siddhirganj Awami League Vice-President Nur Hossain.
Nazrul supporters burned down Hossain’s office on Thursday, after Nazrul’s body was recovered from the Shitalakkhya river on Wednesday.
The new Superintendent of Police Khandker Muhid Uddin told reporters that police raided Hossain’s home based on a tip-off that a secret meeting was going on there.
Asked why there had been no drive before this, he said, “We had no information before. We conducted this drive on the basis of intelligence input.”
The official said police believed Hossain had not escaped the country. – bdnews24.com
