Police permits BNP’s May Dah rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan

The BNP has finally got permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities to hold its workers rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to mark the International Labour Day tomorrow.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will address the rally to be organised by BNP’s workers’ front Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal at 2:pm.
“Police has given us permission to hold the May Day rally at Suhrawardy Udyan following an application submitted by us,” confirmed BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.Maruf Hossain, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told reporters that the permission for workers rally was given on some conditions.
Earlier, the Public Works Department has also given permission to Sramik Dal to use the venue for the rally.
Sramik Dal sought the permission through a letter to the DMP Commissioner on April 7.
Addressing a press conference at party central office at Naya Paltan, Rizvi Ahmed said they are taking all out preparation to make the rally a success.
He hoped that they would be able to complete all the necessary preparations before the programme.
The BNP leader expects that huge number of leaders and activists of the party and its front organisaitons would take part in the May Day rally from different places in the city and its adjacent areas of the city including Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi and Savar.
Party insiders said the BNP has taken all-out efforts to stage huge showdown to make the rally a success.
The BNP leaders have already announced that the rally would be the biggest gathering of its kind in recent times.
Replying to a question, he said the BNP is ready to help government to control any anti-humanity and civilisation and destructive militant activities with their previous experiences.
In this regard, he claimed that the previous BNP government was the most experienced and successful in controlling militancy.
“Militancy has emerged with its ugly face in the country as the government remains busy eliminating opposition avoiding its other responsibilities,” he observed.
He said the BNP urges the government to come up with united and all-out efforts creating a national consensus irrespective of party and opinion to eliminate life taking and anti-democratic militant forces in a bid to ensure peace and security.
The BNP leader also called upon the government to stop patronisation of militants saying that the militants are getting shelter by them.
He called upon the Prime Minister to ask the Information Minister Hasanul to disclose where the militants are hiding instead of accusing the BNP of involvement with militant activities.
Rizvi said the BNP is accusing of its involvement to cover the perpetrators of Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy murders in Kalabangan. – Staff Reporter
