Police SI suspended over ‘torturing’ Gazipur youth

Dhaka – A sub-inspector of Joydebpur Police Station has been suspended in connection with the torture of a bridegroom just before his marriage in Pubail, about 20 kilometres northeast of Dhaka, unb news agency reported.
The police super of the district took the action against Ali Akbar.
He has also formed a three-member committee, headed by additional police super Mohammad Solaiman, to investigate the incident.The other members of the committee are inspector of district Detective Branch of police Amir Hossain, and inspector of district Special Branch M Aminul Islam.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
M Nurul Islam, father of victim Rubel Miah, filed a case against five identified and 10-12 unknown people with Joydebpur Police Station on Thursday night in this connection.
The named accused are Sohel Miah, 27, Rabiul Islam, 32, Kamal Hossain Sadhan, 60, Abdur Rahim, 28, and Lokman Miah, 22, of the area.
In the case statement, it was mentioned that Rubel had an altercation with the accused as he protested their drugs trading.
The accused attacked Rubel and beat him with sticks indiscriminately in the presence of police while he was walking in front of his house on Wednesday night, a day before his Gaye Halud ceremony. They also broke his two legs.
Later, the attackers stormed into the house of Rubel and looted Tk 70,000 and 10 tolas of gold from his room.
Family members alleged that a team of the police station, led by SIs Ali Akbar and Feroz Miah, tried to arrest Rubel on the same night as an accused.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of the police station Khandaker Rezaul Hasan Reza said he sent a letter to the police super to take action against the SI.
