President visits collapsed building, victims

President Abdul Hamid today visited the collapsed Rana Plaza here as well as Enam Medical College Hospital and Combined Medical Hospital (CMH) at Savar Cantonment to see for himself the injured of the tragic incident.At first, the President went to Enam Medical College to see the critically injured who are undergoing treatment there.
President Abdul Hamid visited the patients and inquired about their treatment and well-being. While talking to the injured, the President assured them that the state would provide all assistance for ensuring their proper treatment and rehabilitation.
Chairman of Enam Medical College and Hospital Dr Enamul Haque apprised the President of ongoing treatment of the injured due to Rana Plaza collapse.
The President asked the hospital authority to take all necessary steps for ensuring proper treatment of the injured people.
The hospital sources said presently 147 Rana Plaza victims have been receiving treatment at the hospital.
From the Enam Medical Hospital, the President visited the building collapsed site and observed the ongoing rescue operation, conducted by different concerned authorities including Bangladesh Army.
GOC of 9th Infantry Division Major General Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy, Bir Bikram, apprised the President about various aspects of the ongoing rescue operation.
“We are committed to continue the rescue operation and not to leave the scene under any circumstances till the recovery of the last body,” he told the President.
Major General Hasan apprised the President that so far 2437 people were rescued alive and 510 dead bodies were recovered. Of the dead, 416 bodies have so far been handed over to their respective relatives, he added.
President Abdul Hamid asked the rescuers to keep continuing their efforts in conducting rescue operation till recovery of the last body.
He also thanked all concerned involved in the rescue operation for their relentless efforts in rescuing people even by taking risk of their own lives.
Later, the President went to CMH at Savar Cantonment where presently 65 critically injured Rana Plaza victims have been undergoing treatment.
The concerned physicians of the hospital apprised the President of ongoing treatments of the patients.
President Abdul Hamid spent sometimes beside the injured and inquired about their treatment and conditions.
The President thanked the doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital for their support to the victims showing the sense of humanity.
State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Hoque Tuku and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanok and chiefs of three services were present during the President’s visit. BSS
