Pro-AL panel narrowly win Dhaka Bar election

Dhaka, March 4 – The pro-Awami League While penal won 14 posts including the post of General Secretary in the Dhaka Bar Association election for the session 2018-2019.While the pro-BNP- Jamaat Blue penal got 13 posts including the post of the President. Advocate Golam Mostafa Khan was elected President and Md Mizanur Rahman (Mamun) was elected General Secretary.
Kazi Shahanara Yeasmin of the White penal was made Senior Vice President. Other elected lawyers of this penal are: Md Ruhul Amin Vice President, Treasurer Arifur Rahman Chowdhury (Sumon), Assistant General Secretary Md Kamal Hossain Patwary, Library Secretary M Maniruzzaman (Manir), Senior Assistant General Secretary Mustafizur Rahman Talukder (Dipu) and Office Secretary Abdur Rashid. Besides, six candidates of this penal were elected Executed Committee Members of the bar association.
Of the Blue penal- Shahnaz Begum (Shireen) was elected Cultural Secretary, MABM Khairul Islam (Liton) Social Welfare Secretary and Mohammad Khalilor Rahman (Khalil) was elected Sports Secretary. Besides, nine from this penal were elected Executive Committee Members.
The two-day election of the Dhaka Bar Association began on February 27. From the two penals, 27 each vied in the election. Of the 16,129 lawyer voters, 9,011 cast their votes in the two days’ election.
In the election of the bar, for 2017-2018, of the 27 posts, the pro-BNP –Jamaat’s Blue penal occupied 21posts including the posts of President and General Secretary, while the pro-Awami League-White penal won the the remaining six posts. – Special Correspondent
