Earlier, the government had formed a two-member committee to resolve the ongoing
crisis at Jahangirnagar University over a stir by a section of the teachers to remove the
Vice Chancellor.
The crisis started on April 6 when Rajib Ahmed Rasel, general secretary of Bangladesh
Chhatra League JU unit, a student body associated with the ruling Awami League,
assaulted a teacher. The university administration showed reluctance to punish the
incident.
Anwar took charge of the university after his predecessor Sharif Enamul Kabir resigned
in the face of protests by students and teachers over “irregularities” and “nepotism” in the
appointment of teachers on May 17, 2012. –Correspondent, JU
