Prof Anisuzzaman to get SAARC Literature Award

National Professor Anisuzzaman has been named as the recipient of SAARC Literature Award 2019.

The award will be officially handed over on May 21 in Bhutan. The president of Bangla Academy has now become the fourth Bangladeshi to receive the award. Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature, based in New Delhi will confer the award. On hearing the announcement, Bangla Academy gave a warm reception in honour of Anisuzzaman at its Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Seminar Room yesterday.
Present Director General of Bangla Academy, Habibullah Sirajee presented Professor Anisuzzaman with floral wreath at the occassion. Academy Secretary Mohammad Anowar Hossain, Professor Nirukumar Chakma, Professor Kumar Rai, Dr Israil Khan, poet Quazi Rosy and directors, deputy-directors, officials of Bangla Academy were present at the event.
SAARC Literary Award was initiated in 2001. The first award was shared by Shamsur Rahman of Bangladesh and Ganesh Narayandas Devy of India. Other Bangladeshi recipients of the award were Fakrul Alam in 2012 and Selina Hossain in 2015.
