Public hearing on N’ganj 7 abduction-murders Monday

The probe body formed to investigate law enforcers’ alleged involvement in the Narayanganj seven-murder case will hold a public hearing on the victims’ abductions and their subsequent murders on May 12 and 15.
The hearing will be held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Law Mizanur Rahman, a member of the seven-member probe body said.
He said people have been requested to give their depositions during the public hearing.
Meanwhile, probe body chief Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah, also the additional secretary to the Public Administration Ministry, said the progress report over the investigation will be submitted to the High Court as per its direction on May 15.
The seven-member probe committee is recording statements of family members and relatives of the seven victims, including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sharker, today  at the DC office.
The Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday formed the probe panel in compliance with a High Court order.
On Monday, the High Court issued a suo moto rule asking the government to form a seven-member committee to investigate the allegation that Rab personnel were involved in the killing of Nazrul Islam and six others.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. – UNB
