Quota protest leader Faruk, 2 others sent to jail

Dhaka, July 3 – A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent three people including Joint Convener of Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokhon Parishad Faruk Hossein, to jail in two cases filed on charges of attack on Dhaka University VC’s residence, torching vehicles and sabotage. Magistrate Subrata Ghosh of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka sent the three accused to the jail after DB Inspector Bahauddin Faruqui produced them before the court seeking their detention. The other accused persons are Tariqul Islam and Jasimuddin.
Earlier on Monday, another joint convener of the quota reform platform Rashed Khan was placed on remand for five days in a separate case filed under the ICT Act. A BCL leader lodged the case.
On April 8 during the quota reform movement, thousands of demonstrating students allegedly broke into the residence of DU VC and vandalized the building.
Three cases were filed with the Shahbagh Police Station in this connection. – Special Correspondent
