Mobile court punishes fish traders for selling contaminated fish

A Rapiod Action Battalion mobile court sentenced eight fish trader to one month to one year simple jail term and seized 600 kgs of shrimp and 700 kgs of banned African magur fish (Cat fish) raiding three fish wholesale markets of Karwan bazaar in the city on Friday.
Sources at the Rab headquarters said a team of Rab-2 led by its Deputy Director Dr Md Didarul Alam along with executive magistrate Md Helel Uddin conducted separate drives at ‘Janata Matshya Arat’, Sonar Bangla Matshya Arat’ and Satkhiras Matshya Arat’ in between 6:00 am to 7:30 am in the morning.

During the drives, the elite force arrested six fish traders –Upen Mallick, 35, Abdur Rahim, 35, Saiful, 28, Asim Halder, 30, Md Zia, 24, and Emdadul, 24, on charge of selling contaminated shrimp fish and recovered 600 kgs of shrimp from their possessions.

During interrogation, the sis fish traders revealed that they pushed injections on the shrimp mixing with jelly, white iron, sago and water to become weighty in a vew to make more profit.

The magistrate sentenced Upen Mallick, Abdur Rahim, Saiful and Osim Halder to two months simple jail each, while Zia and Emdad to one year each jail term under Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.

The elite force also arrested Noto Gupal, 30, and Sanaullah along with 700 Kgs of African Magur on charge of selling the banned fish.

The Magistrate sentenced them to one year simple jail each under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.

The seized shrimp and Magor fishes were distributed to orphanage in presence of Nazim Uddin Ahmed, a officer of department of Fisheries.
