Chittagong – Rapid Action Battalion (rab) members are reported to have picked up a pro-BNP UP chairman from Katgar area under Patenga Police Station in the city early Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Omar Faruk, chairman of Hazirpara union under Laxmipur Sadar upazila and organising secretary of BNP Sadar upazila (East) unit.Faruk’s wife Parveen Akhter said a group of 6-7 people posing as Rab members picked up her husband from a relative’s house in Katgar area around 4 am.
He was later taken on a vehicle with sticker of Rab-7, she said, adding that her husband remained traceless since then.
Victim’s family sources said Faruk who is accused in two cases is now on bail.
However, Rab-7 director Misbah Ahmed denied the allegation, saying they did not conduct any drive in Katgar in the last two days. “Somebody might have picked up Faruk using Rab’s name,” said the Rab.
