A three-member team of Bangladesh Police will fly to Saudi Arabia on October 12 to bring back Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the teenage boy Rajon murder case.
The members of the police team are additional police super of the Police Headquarters (PHQ) Mahbubul Karim, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Rahmat Ullah and its senior assistant commissioner AFM Nizam Uddin.
Sources at the Police Headquarters said the Home Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday after receiving a request from the PHQ recently.
Kamrul will be brought back home with the help of Interpol and the Saudi police, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said they are alert to make grounds for ensuring justice in the Rajon killing case.
“Bringing the main accused, Kamrul, back through proper procedure is part of our sincere efforts to establish the rule of law,” Assistant Inspector General (Media) at the PHQ Nazrul Islam quoted the IGP as saying.
On July 8, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of Sylhet city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident, which went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry.
Ten people were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and eight of them made ‘confession’ separately to their involvement in the incident.
Later, the investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheet accusing 13 people, including absconding Kamrul, on August 16 before the court in Sylhet.
The other accused are Muhit Alam, 32, Shamim Alam, 20, Pavel Islam, 18, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, Moyna Mia, 45, Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, 20, Dulal Ahmed, 30, Ayaz Ali, 45, Taz Uddin Badal, 28, Firoz Mia, 50, Asmat Ali, 42, and Ruhul Amin, 25.
The three fugitive accused are Kamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Ahmed and Pavel.
Kamrul Islam, 24, fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident where he was held by local Bangladeshis and then handed over to Jeddah police.
The Saudi Interior Ministry earlier approved the extradition of Kamrul to Bangladesh. On July 21, Interpol issued a notice against him.
