Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) on Monday ordered the demolition of a three-storey residential building that slightly tilted towards another five-storey building at Purba Hajinagar in Sarulia under Demra Police Station in the city on Sunday night.Shawkat Ali Joarder, station officer of Demra fire service station, said locals found the building leaning towards its nearby building on its west side around 10:30pm.
As panic escalated, firefighters from Demra fire service station and police rushed in and evacuated both the buildings after inspection.
Joarder said both the buildings were sealed off after shifting the inmates to safer places.
Asked about the matter, Afsar Udddin, an official of Rajuk, said the structure had been developed without approval from Rajuk. “The building was designed by a mason instead of an engineer,” he said.
Afsar Uddin said the building owner has been asked to demolish it. (Source: UNB)
