Rana Plaza case hearing on July 18

Dhaka-A city court fixed July 18 for the hearing on framing charge against 41 accused in the murder case filed in connection with the collapse of Rana Plaza building. Dhaka’s District and Session Judge SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order on Monday in response to a time petition, filed on behalf of the defense. The judge also denied bail to Sohel Rana, owner of the collapsed building.
Earlier on April 24, 2013, eight-storied Rana Plaza that housed five readymade factories, a shopping mall and a bank, collapsed, leaving 1,137 people dead and about 2,000 injured.
Savar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Wali Ashraf filed a case ‘death due to negligence’ and RAJUK officer M Helal Ahmed filed another case with Savar Model Police Station accusing 13 including Sohel Rana citing that the building was not constructed following the relevant rules.
On June 1, 2015, Investigation Officer Senior ASP (CID) submitted two charge sheets in connection with the incident.
On the day when the complex was collapsed, Rajuk filed a case with Savar Moldel Police Station against Sohel Rana for violating the National Building Code. Police filed another case accusing six persons, including Sohel Rana, on April 25 for committing murder. Police arrested Sohel on April 28, 2013. His parents are among 41 people, who have been made accused in the murder case. -Court Correspondent
