RDRS Bangladesh distributes blankets in Rangpur division

RDRS Bangladesh distributed 6,660 pieces of quality blankets among the cold- hit poor and distressed people, including women and children, of all eight districts in Rangpur division during this winter season.The blankets were distributed under the core and development & microfinance programmes of RDRS Bangladesh and with assistance of Chars Livelihoods Programme (CLP) and Project Kombol to mitigate sufferings of the cold-hit people.The government officials, union parishad chairmen and members, officials of RDRS Bangladesh, civil society members and local elite distributed the blankets at separate ceremonies arranged by the NGO in rural areas.Programme Manger of RDRS Bangladesh for CLP Shafikur Rahman, district level Programme Managers (Filed Coordination) and upazila level officials of the NGO also attended the distribution ceremonies.
Agriculture and Environment Coordinator of RDRS Mamunur Rashid said 1,456 blankets were distributed among the cold-hit people of all eight districts under Rangpur division under the core and development & microfinance programmes of the NGO.With the assistance of the CLP, RDRS Bangladesh distributed 1,977 pieces of blankets among the cold-stricken and extremely poor people of Gangachara and Kawnia upazilas in Rangpur district.The UKaid through the Department for International Development (DFID) and Australian Government through Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) have been funding implementation of the comprehensive CLP.Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, CLP is being executed by the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division with the management through Maxwell Stamp Plc, he added.
Besides, 3,227 pieces of blankets were distributed among the cold-hit people of Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Rangpur with the assistance of Project Kombol, a joint initiative of Garbo Bangladesh Foundation and Bandhu Foundation.The process of distribution of more blankets among the cold-stricken people of all ages in eight districts under Rangpur division still continues to support them in overcoming bite of the sweeping cold wave, Mamunur Rashid added. -BSS, Rangpur
