RDRS vaccinates 2,300 cattleheads in Mithapukur

RDRS Bangladesh vaccinated 2,300 cattle-heads through fortnight-long
livestock vaccination campaign that ended at four farmers field
schools (FFS) under Durgapur union in Mithapukur upazila here on
Wednesday.
The reputed NGO organised the livestock vaccination campaign in
association with its Durgapur Union Federation Farmers’ Forum under
assistances of Mithapukur Upazila Department of Livestocks from June 5
to 19 last.
Livestocks experts and field workers of RDRS Bangladesh immunized
1,600 cows with vaccination against anthrax and 600 goats against
peptides pates ruminant (PPR) diseases during the campaign.
Local farmers and villagers brought their domestic animals to
Shitolgari Government Primary School FFS, Shitolgari Maddyapara FFS,
Durgapur College Para FFS and Tulshipur FFS for immunization.
With Agriculture Officer of RDRS Bangladesh Sharifa Pasha in the
chair, Mithapukur Upazila Livestock Officer Abu Bakar Siddik attended
the concluding ceremony of the vaccination campaign at Tulshipur FFS
on Wednesday afternoon.
President of Durgapur Union Federation Farmers’ Forum Lipi Begum was
present as the special guest in the ceremony participated by local
public representatives, elite and over 150 male and female farmers of
different villages.
The speakers stressed for taking proper care of domestic animals for
boosting the highly prospective animal husbandry sector to bring
fortune and achieve economic self-reliance through alleviating
poverty.
They informed that hundreds of rural people have already achieved
economic self-reliance both in the main lands and char areas through
commercial livestock rearing and marketing those successfully in
recent years.
They suggested for timely vaccination of domestic animals to save them
from various animal diseases those generally occur during the rainy
seasons for enhancing the animal husbandry sector in rural areas.
