Sagar-Runi case report deadline deferred

Dhaka – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Tuesday deferred the deadline to submit the investigation report in the Sagar-Runi murder case to December 26.As the probe report was not submitted to the CMM Court on Tuesday Magistrate Mazharul Haque of the CMM Court fixed the new date, rescheduling the date for 52 times. The number of accused persons in the case is eight including Runi’s reported friend Tanvir. Every accused of the case was put on remand more than once. However, none of them made confession in the case admitting their involvement in murder.
The Rapid Action Battalion has been given the responsibility to investigate in the murder case of Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi. Their dead bodies were found in their apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area on February 12 in 2012.
Primarily, Sher-e- Bangla Nagar Police Station investigated the case. Later, Detective Branch (DB) of police reinvestigated the murder incident. As the detectives failed to find out the clues of murder, the High Court Division directed the RAB to carry out the investigation. Earlier, RAB officials said that the motive behind the murder would be clear once the report on the evidence from the USA would reach them. Meanwhile, the report reached, but the motive behind the murder is yet to the clear. – Special Correspondent
