Police arrested an organiser of so-called ‘Sayedee Mukti Mancha’, also a local Jamaat
leader, from Assasuni upazila headquarters on Wednesday noon.
The arrestee was identified as Fazlur Rahman Joarder, one of the organisers of ‘Sayedee
Mukti Mancha’, and leader of Protapnagar village unit Jamaat of the upazila.
Being tipped-off, a team of police arrested Fazlur from the area around 1:30pm, said
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Assasuni Police Station Farid Uddin.
Some local activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir
established ‘Sayedee Mukti Mancha’ in Anulia area of the upazila after awarding of
death sentence to Sayedee by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1).
In contrast to Shahbagh Ganajagaran Mancha, the activists established the mancha to
raise a movement against the verdict.
Following this, a case was filed with the thana in which all organisers, including Fazlur
Rahman, were made accused and Fazlur had been on the run since then, added the OC.
On February 28, the ICT-1 in a verdict awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee for committing crimes against humanity during the
