A Dhaka court has sent BNP leader Mahbub Uddin Khokon to jail in a case concerning connection over the death of a policeman in a bomb attack in Bangla Motor.Metropolitan Magistrate Tasruzzaman issued the order on Friday rejecting his bail prayer and remand prayer sought by police.
Instead, the court asked the investigation officer to question him at the jail gate during the next five working days.
Police had prayed for a 10-day remand to question the BNP leader.
Police arrested the BNP Standing Committee member from near the Supreme Court on Thursday afternoon.
He was arrested two days after the BNP Chairperson announced her ‘march for democracy’ programme to foil the Jan 5 national election.
Police constable Md Ferdous was burned to death and two others sustained burn injuries when miscreants torched a bus on police duty, parked in front of the Bangla Motor police box, around 11:30pm on Tuesday.
The attack was mounted hours after the Opposition’s latest spell of countrywide blockade had ended.
A case was filed with Ramna Police Station accusing 18 Opposition leaders including BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir the next day.
However, Khokon’s name was not there among the accused.
Around 100 people have so far died in violence during the blockades enforced by the Opposition since Nov 26 to press for cancelling the poll schedule. -bdnews24.com
