School set on fire in Laxmipur

A high school was set ablaze by miscreants in Raipur upazila on Monday night, the second day of the 72-hour hartal and the 63rd day of the transport blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.Police said some miscreants set fire to Mirganj Girl’s High School by pouring petrol in the area at night.Later, local people rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.Portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, furniture and some documents of the school burnt down in the fire.
Raipur upazila executive officer Sharmin Alam and officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station Manjurul Haque Akhanda visited the spot.Headmaster of the school Shamsul Tawhid filed a case in this connection. -UNB, Laxmipur
