Senior cop withdrawn for neglect of duty in Nusrat murder case

Dhaka, May 12 – Superintendent of Police (SP) of Feni SM Jahangir Alam Sarker has been withdrawn for negligence of duty over the murder of Feni madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The SP was attached to the Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Sunday, said it’s Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations), Sohel Rana.
He said Jahangir was withdrawn as per recommendations of the investigation committee formed by the Police Headquarters over the incident.
Earlier, former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain was suspended and attached to the office of deputy inspector general (DIG) of police (Rangpur Range), while SI Md Yusuf and SI Iqbal Ahammed were attached to the DIG office (Khulna range) and the Khagrachhari district respectively following recommendations of the probe panel.
On April 6, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre allegedly by people loyal to the principal of her madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as she had accused him of sexually harassing her in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district.
She lost her battle for life on April 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
A case was filed accusing eight identified people, including madrasa principal Sirajuddoula, lecturer of English Absar Uddin, Feni municipality councillor Maksudul Alam Maksud, and four unidentified ones.
Later, the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation. – UNB
