Seven BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men among 46 arrested in Rangpur

Police arrested a total of 46 persons, including seven leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different places here last night, police sources said.The arrested persons included five leaders and activists of Jamaat- Shibir of different areas under Mithapukur and Pirgachha upazilas and one BNP activist each of Kotwali Thana area and Pirgachha upazila in the district.Of them, Mithapukur Thana police arrested Jamaat activists Abdul Kader, 40, Feroz Ahmed, 35, and Alamgir Hossain, 30, and Shibir leader Shariful, 21, while Pirgachha Thana police arrested Jamaat leader Abdur Razzaque, 35.Besides, Pirgachha Thana police arrested BNP activist Chandan Mian, 35 while Kotwali Thana police arrested BNP activist Shah Alam, 19.The arrested leaders and activist of Jamaat, Shibir and BNP are allegedly involved with recent subversive activities like hurling petrol bombs, killing innocent people, blasting cocktail bombs and other terrorist activities in recent time.Besides, police arrested more 39 persons, including absconding accused persons of different cases, warrantees, thieves, muggers, drug traders, anti-social elements and other suspicious people from all eight upazilas in the district.After primary interrogation, the arrested persons were produced before different Rangpur courts from where they were sent to the jail hajat today, the sources said. -BSS, Rangpur
