Shibir hartal likely Sunday to press Delwar’s release

Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Friday threatened to enforce a dawn-to-dusk hartal throughout the country on Sunday if its leaders and activists including central President Delwar Hossain are not released by Saturday..Chhatra Shibir will also stage demonstrations across the country on Saturday protesting killing of its leaders and activists and demanding the release of its detained leaders and information of its missing leaders
Secretary General of Chhatra Shibir Abdul Jabbar announced the programme through a statement on Friday.
“We will be forced to enforce the hartal on Sunday if our demand is not met by Saturday,” he said in the statement.
He said Shibir would also hold demonstrations at every district on Saturday to protest the killing of its leaders and workers by “ruling party men”..
The Shibir leader said Sunday’s hartal would add a new dimension to the ongoing movement of the BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance where Jamaat is a key ally.
He demanded the release of national leaders including Shibir president Delwar Hossain and whereabouts of allegedly abducted Shibir leaders—Waliullah and Al Mukaddas of Islamic University, information of Hafez Zakir Hossain of Dhaka and protesting killing of Shibir activist Abdul Aziz in Comilla and not appearing of Shibir leaders Tajammul Ali, Azizur Rahman, Abdus Salam and Nurul Amin before the court after they were arrested
Abdul Jabbar accused the government of setting a heinous example of human rights violation in the country.
He alleged that the Shibir president was arrested illegally and torture and repression were being carried out on him.
The Shibir leader hoped that the law enforcers would cooperate them to observe Saturday’s countrywide demonstration in a peaceful manner and the government would release their detained leaders immediately.
