Shibir to enforce half-hartal in 4 dists Thursday

Islami Chhatra Shibir will enforce a daylong hartal in three northern districts while a half-day one in Comilla on Thursday.Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, will enforce the dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Rajshahi, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts protesting the arrest of its two leaders.
On the other hand, it will enforce a half-day hartal in Comilla protesting the killing of one of its activists.
A press release signed by Shibir Rajshahi University unit acting publicity secretary Ziauddin Bablu announced the hartal call in the three Rajshahi districts on Wednesday.
The release said plainclothes police picked up RU unit Shibir leaders Tajammul Ali and M Azizur Rahman from the capital on Monday. “However, they were not produced before the county even in two days.”
On Tuesday, Shibir called a half-day hartal in Comilla for Thursday protesting the killing of Abdul Aziz, 23, an activist of Feni Government College unit of Shibir who was beaten to death by some unidentified miscreants at Kulasa village on Monday night.
Police said a group of miscreants picked up Aziz from a mosque at Paduar Bazar and took him to Kulasa village where they hacked him indiscriminately.
He was rushed to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
