Local unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student body of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Thursday called a half-day hartal in the district for Sunday protesting
the death of Khalilur Rahman, 88-ward unit president of the capital.
Mizanur Rahman, publicity secretary of Shibir, announced the shutdown at Kormoja Eidgah Maidan in Santhia upazila around 10.00am before the Namaj-e-Janaja of Khalilur started.
Khalilur, 22, resident of Mollikpara village of the upazila, was reportedly shot dead in a clash with police in the capital’s Jatrabari area during the first hours of the second day hartal called by Jamaat.
The Islamist party called the hartal in protest against the High Court declaration that its registration with Election Commission as a political party is illegal.-UNB, Pabna
