Dhaka – A court here on Monday sentenced four people, including three siblings, to life term imprisonment for killing tailor Shamsul Haque in Kaliganj upazila in 2004.The condemned convicts are M Masud, Sanaullah, Nur-e Alam alias Moyna, sons of M Sobhan of Ramchandrapur in Kaliganj upazila of the district and their brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Anwar Shikdar, son of Gani Shikdar of Harinafulia area in Barisal.The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, otherwise they will have to suffer jail three month more.According to the prosecution, the four accused called out tailor Shamsul from his house at Ramchandrapur in Kaliganj upazila and beat him to death with sticks on April 15, 2004.Later, the victim’s wife Hafeza Begum filed a case against the four with Kaliganj Police Station.On October 10, 2004, police submitted a chargesheet against the four to a court.After examining records and 13 witnesses, Judge of Gazipur Additional Session Judge’s Court M Ikbal Hossain passed the order in the presence of Nur-e Alam while three others remained absconding. His three condemned cohorts however, remain absconding.UNB
