Smuggled goods worth Tk 34.76 cr seized in Joypurhat

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in several anti-smuggling drives, seized a huge quantity of smuggled Indian goods worth about Taka 34.76 crore from different areas of the district during the last 11 months of this year.

BGB-3 sources said the seized goods are: huge quantities of Indian phensidyl, Beer, sauces, fruits, black beauty hair oil, betelnuts, different types of medicines, tonics, creams, imitation ornaments, yaba tablets, bicycles, spectacles, pressure cookers, pepper, three pieces, cosmetics, sharees, motorcycle parts, sex-stimulating tablets, heroin and others Indian illegal goods.

Lt Col. Rakib, Commanding officer (CO) of Joypurhat-3 Battalion, said members of the BGB also arrested 221 people from the areas in these connections and handed over them to concerned police stations.

“The seized goods also handed over to the customs authorities,” he said, adding a total of 2,246 cases were filed in these connections during the period. -BSS, Joypurhat
