Sushma Swaraj praises JP’s ‘rare role in govt, opposition’

Dhaka, July 26 – Jatiya Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader on Thursday said India External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj hailed their party’s role — both in government and opposition — and hoped many democratic countries will follow the example.“Sushma Swaraj said it’s a rare example that Jatiya Party has been playing the role in the government despite being the opposition. She appreciated Jatiya Party as it came out of the traditional concept that the opposition can’t play any role in the government,” he said.
Hawlader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Jatiya Party Chairman’s Banani office on HM Ershad’s four-day India tour.
Ershad along with Ruhul Amin Hawlader, presidium members Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu, Sunil Shuvo Roy and Khaled Akhter, returned home from New Delhi on Wednesday.
During the tour, Hawlader said Ershad had meetings with the Indian external and home ministers and its Indian national security adviser Ajit Doval.
He said their chairman could not meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he was out of Delhi during his tour.
However, Hawlader said, Sushma Swaraj met him on behalf of Modi.
He said the Indian government invited Ershad to go to Delhi further at his convenient time.
During the meetings with the three Indian leaders, the Jatiya Party secretary general said they discussed common issues.
He said the Indian leaders said they want to strengthen India’s current good relations with Bangladeshi people further.
“India expects a democratic atmosphere to remain intact in Bangladesh. They assured us that India will always give its moral support to continue the democratic and constitutional trend in Bangladesh,” Hawlader said.
He said Indian leaders also hoped that the next election will be free and fair with the participation of all parties. – UNB
