Suspected robber killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Dhaka, Mar 17 – A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and DB police at Sehala Adabaria in Doulatpur upazila of Kushita early Friday.Tipped off that a gang of robbers gathered in the area to commit robberies, a team of DB police had been there around 3:30 am.
Sensing the law enforcers’ presence, the robbers opened fire on the police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.
During the gunfight, Selim Molla, 32, of Madhugari village, suffered bullet wounds. He was taken to Doulatpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Three policemen were also injured in the gunfight.
Selim was wanted in a number of cases, including that of robbery and snatching, said Sabbirul Isalm, officer-in-charge of Kushita DB police.
Police could not arrest anyone else as the robbers managed to flee the scene.
They also recovered two firearms, two sharp weapons and several bullets from the spot. – UNB
