Tension up as Salahuddin untraced for 4 days

President of Supreme Court Bar Association Khondakar Mahbub Hossain on Saturday demanded return of Bnp joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed unharmed to his family.

Addressing a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Association Hall he said that securing the safety of life and property of the people was the responsibility of the government. Salahuddin Ahmed is a lawyer, if he is not brought before the eye of the public without any further delay the lawyers would start a movement, he said.

Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Begum who was present on the occasion said that she wanted no politics over the personal safety and security of her husband.

Meanwhile, Bangabir Kader Siddiqui who has been continuing a sit-in demonstration to press for dialogue to end the political impasse said that the failure to provide information on the whereabouts of an eminent politician like Salahuddin Ahmed was an alarm signal for the government.

He said that a smokescreen had been created also after the arrest of Nagorik oikhya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna who is now under police custody. Kader Siddiqui expressed the hope that Salahuddin Ahmed did not meet with a fate that some other political leaders did.

On Saturday Police Inspector General Shahidul Haque told meeting that no law enforcement agency did arrest Salahuddin Ahmed. We are looking for him, he said.

Salahuddin Ahmed who had been announcing 20-Party programmes and decisions by hiding himself at a Uttara house was ‘picked up by some armed members of law enforcing agencies,’ on Tuesday night, his family said. – News Desk
