Three sentenced to gallows for killing 0-level student

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced three persons to death for killing an O-level student in the capital 15 years ago.
Judge Abdur Rahim Sardar of the Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon in presence of the convicts- Md Ziaur Rahman, Alamgir and Salauddin. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each.
The brief prosecution story says that Md Ammar Shamshi, son of Towfiq Shamshi, an O-level student of Dhanmondi Memorial Ideal School was abducted on October 16, 2000.
The victim’s father lodged a case with Lalbagh Police Station on October 19 after he was informed of the claim a ransom of Tk one million from the abductors. They took the victim to the National Park of Gazipur and strangulated him there.
Later, the abductors were arrested when they went to take the ransom money from the victim’s father on October 25 of the year. Later, they made confessional statement to a court admitting their involvement in the incident.
The court framed charges against the accused on May 28, 2002 while Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Shadekul Islam had submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on May 31, 2001.
