A court in Chittagong has sentenced three men to death for raping a Marma woman in 2011.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 judge Rezaul Karim delivered the verdict against Kamal Uddin Rubel, Md Iqbal Hossain and Sumon Robi Das.
The convicts are all in prison. The tribunal’s Special Public Prosecutor MA Naser told bdnews24.com said the three had lured the victim, a resident of Rangunia Upazila, with the promises of a job and got her to come to the city’s Sholoshohor gate no. 2.
They then took turn to sexually assault the woman there, said the prosecutor.
The victim herself filed the case.
Five men were accused in the case. The charges could not be proven beyond doubt against the other two and they were acquitted by the court.
There were eight witnesses who testified in the case.
The three were also fined Tk 100,000 each, said PP MA Naser. – bdnews24.com
